Kilmainham Gaol is a museum in Dublin which was a prison before. Kilmainham Gaol is an amazing example of the biggest empty gaol of the area. This punishment institution was opened in 1796 and worked until 1924. When the tourists come to this place, they can get better understanding of the history. Besides, it gives you the feeling what it is like to be detained in a place like that.
People who organized Irish rebellion in 1798, The Emmet Rebellion of 1803, Young Irelander Rebellion of 1848, rebellion in1867 and Easter Rising of 1916 were confined in Kilmainham Gaol. The names of such historical figures as Robert Emmet and Charles Stewart Parnell remind us about this historical sight. The guided tour is arranged at the place and only this way the access is given to the tourists. There is also an exhibition at the place. Take into account that being the busy place, you cannot get the instantaneous access at times.
